Around 50 cars have been smeared with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's town of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, according to authorities.
Vehicles, walls and mailboxes were marked, in some cases with prohibited symbols, they stated in a official communication.
Officers report they were notified in the late hours on Wednesday, when a individual discovered that a vehicle in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish fluid.
The liquid had been placed in the form of a swastika, they reported.
Police then located many other marked vehicles and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
Swastikas are banned in Germany under laws prohibiting the public exhibition of Nazi symbols.
Police report early analysis indicate the fluid was likely human bodily fluid.
"Currently there is no lead as to where it came from; investigators are presently not informed of any injuries in relation with the event," they stated.
City officials announced they were trying "to unravel the case" and have requested to the public for tips.
An important official commented the vandalism left him without words and required to be solved rapidly.
"This incident strikes at the very heart of Hanau and reopens the trauma of the extremist violent incident half a decade ago," he wrote on online, recalling the murder of nine individuals by a assailant aiming at residents of foreign heritage in February 2020.
